Tradition and Zeitgeist in Carinthia, Austria

Bad Kleinkirchheim: a famous holiday resort for over three generations

The town of Bad Kleinkirchheim is located in the Carinthian Nock Mountains and it took nearly three generations to develop this formerly sleepy mountain village into an epicentre of high quality hiking, spa and winter tourism. A decisive role in this success story was played by the Pulverer family.

The Pulverer family: Pioneers for the high quality of Carinthian tourism

In 1470 the Pulverer family was mentioned in a document at Loy-farm, which formed the core of today’s holiday offers by the Pulverer family. In 1928 the farm had been rebuilt by the active Josef Pulverer and his wife Maria, a renowned cook, to be a snack station. And within four years this had been extended into a restaurant. This was followed by modernisation (today restored as a part of the ‘Loy-Stub’n`) of the restaurant areas and guest rooms. In 1938 there were already 12 beds, electricity, a place of residence in the garden, and radio and telephone connection had been offered to their summer guests.

Holiday between thermal spas and the pistes

About 1950 Bad Kleinkircheim became a popular health resort. The Pulverers were responsible for the building up of the health and spa offerings and the new 'Dependence' and the 'Café Badewandl' flourished. In the 50s a lot of renovations and modernisation of the family business took place, including the buying of the local thermal spot – on which the foundations of the spa-area was laid. In 1961, a new generation took over the management with Reinhard and Annemarie Pulverer - today’s senior chefs. The natural resources of the Nock Mountains provided ideal conditions for winter tourism, and in the 60s and 70s Bad Kleinkirchheim advanced to a world-cup ranking. In 1967 the building of the actual Hotel Pulverer began, which is now one of the best hotels in Carinthia.

Starlets and stars at the Thermal world Hotel Pulverer

Celebrities from all over the world have been counted among the guests at the Thermal world Hotrel Pulverer. .A number of expansions of the Hotel, the last of which took place in 1989, helped the hotel reach its current five-star level with 100 guest-rooms, 170 beds and very attractive common rooms and dining areas. In 1974 they built the hotel-owned thermal spa complex and this gave Hotel Pulverer the leading role in tourism in Bad Kleinkirchheim. With a sense of steady improvement a number of existing and also new companies were integrated into the hotel’s general offering: the ´Rossalmhütte`, the ´Nockalmhütte`, the ´Kaiserburgrestaurant` as well as the Partner-Silence-Hotel ´St.Oswald`.

Yesterday, today, tomorrow: Three generations at the Thermal world Hotel Pulverer

The siblings Reinhard, Siegrun and Josef Pulverer are the third generation to turn their talents to serving their guests. From April 2005 onwards, daughter Siegrun and her husband August became managing directors of the Hotel Pulverer. Always focusing on the pulse of the times and with a lot of empathy for the needs of their guests, the experienced family Pulverer stands for a high profile quality offering, which can be seen as truly singular in the whole of Carinthia. The name “Pulverer” stands for a quality seal of warm hospitality, high class recreation and happy guests.
