... to the Pulverer Alpine Chalets
Winter Hiking with a Stop at the Nockalmhütte Alpine Chalet
This hike is considered one of Siegrun Pulverer’s favourite routes, especially because it is one that she used to take almost daily. A unique feature of the Hotel Pulverer is the three alpine chalets that it owns. Before Siegrun Pulverer took over the hotel’s operations from her brother, she was the innkeeper at the Nockalmhütte chalet and hiked each day down to the valley below.the Nockalmbahn gondola, which is located on the way to St Oswald. There is even a special ticket for winter hikers. Be sure to pick up your guest card at the front desk of the hotel, which entitles you to reduced fares. The gondola takes you to the mountain station at the very top and from there the winter hiking trail to the mountain saddle is a mere 30 minutes away. The return hike is along the same path.
A Stop in the Nockalmhütte Chalet
And then comes arguably the best part of winter hiking: A stop in the rustic Nockalmhütte chalet. Inside, a fire crackles in the open fireplace and you are surrounded by savoury smells. Ask about the hunting parlour and find a comfortable spot with a view of the mountains. Inside the cosy parlour, tucked between two black and white photos of the Pulverer Family and sets of antlers, you’ll find it very easy to rest and relax.
After you have regained your strength, you can begin the journey home. Siegrun Pulverer, when she used to make this daily trek to the valley, did so in the company of her German shepherd. Allow your innkeeper to describe the way down and look forward to relaxing afterwards in the thermal spa area of the Hotel Pulverer.
