Hiking in the UNESCO Nockberge Biosphere Park

The Nockberge are unique worldwide. Instead of rugged rocky peaks, rounded “Nocken”, the typical mountain shape, open alpine landscapes and extensive Swiss stone pine forests characterize the region. This very combination makes the area one of the most beautiful hiking regions in Austria. The Nockberge are known for their biodiversity. Together with the Salzburg Lungau, the Carinthian Nockberge have been designated a UNESCO Biosphere Park since 2012. Nature conservation, development and living tradition come together in this region.

For you, this means: hiking in a landscape that is consciously protected and sustainably managed. Well-marked trails, rustic huts, regional delicacies and numerous tours of all difficulty levels await you.

Hiking holidays in
Bad Kleinkirchheim for families

There are numerous walks around Bad Kleinkirchheim that are ideal for families. Many of the trails wind through gentle alpine pastures, are clearly marked and feature only moderate gradients. This makes it easy to plan walks even with children and adapt them to your own pace. Here are our favourites:

Nockberge Trail “nock/art” Adventure Trail (Brunnachhöhe): Around Brunnachhöhe, there are several short themed stations from the “nock/art” project. Along the trails, families will encounter art installations and vantage points that can easily be incorporated into a short hike starting from the top station of the Brunnach Biosphere Park Cable Car.

Nocky’s AlmZeit Family Hike (Turracher Höhe): This adventure hike leads around the mountain station of the Panoramabahn on the Turracher Höhe. Along the way, there are play stations, small adventure areas and plenty of spots to explore. Ideal for families with children.
